Title / Titel Evaluation of possible impact of minor populations of 3TC-resistant mutations in the reverse transcriptase of HIV-1 in acute seroconverters on the effect of antiretroviral therapy.
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung Transmission of drug-resistant HIV-1 is a major health concern, because it is restricting the options of subsequent antiretroviral therapy (ART). It has previously been shown that minor poöulations harboring drug resistant mutations can be transmitted during primary HIV-infection. Here we aim at studying the prevalence upon transmission of HIV-1 as minority species in patients with clearly defined primary HIV-infection. All patients are enrolled in the Zurich Primary HIV-infection Study. We will furthermore study kinetics of minority drug resistant viruses upon ART and after stoping such. All together this study will delineate the role of transmitted HIV-1 drug resistant minority species in the course of the disease.
