| Summary / Zusammenfassung | The Internet has created a new resource type with a commercial value: the domain name. The huge increase in the demand for good domain names means that a veritable name market is emerging and that adequate tools must be developed for the management of the name space. Moreover, the allocation of domain names to users is currently undergoing a major shift from a simple first-come-first-serve principle to an open and non-monopolistic market. Since registrars will be competing with one another, it is important that they be able to survey the market for the use and release of domain names, and to negotiate in the event of conflicts over names that their respective clients have chosen. The goal of the DNX project is to create an environment for the electronic commerce of Internet domain names. We propose to build a Domain Name eXchange that provides value-added registration services, eventually leading to the computerized trade of domain names. The primary purpose of these services is to support a single market for domain names.
