Title / Titel Control of Infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT)
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung Infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT) is a dramatic disease of the upper respiratory tract in poultry. The causative agent is a herpesvirus. In Switzerland around 5 to 20 outbreaks are registered every year in fancy breeds. The aim of this project is to gain more information on the diagnosis and control of the disease.
Today the eradication of infected flocks is madatory in Switzerland. This leads to massive economic damage and in the case of rare fancy breeds to loss of unique genetic material.
Next year the control policy will be officially changed, in that - alternatively to culling - the use of breeding eggs for replacements will be allowed. Our department accompanies this study to ascertain the efficacy of this new concept
