Completed research project

Title / Titel Comparative Perspectives on Adolescent Development in a Globalizing World: Changing Opportunities, Constraints and Pathways of Risk
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung This research initiative is designed to advance comparative research on adolescent development in developing countries, with a special focus on at-risk youth and to establish an international research network composed of scholars from developing countries and senior scholars from the West.
The projects within this international research network address the question of how the life stage youth in developing countries is being transformed by global change processes and how these transformations affect adolescent development. From a comparative perspective, it aims at a more systematic understanding of both the institutional structuring of adolescence and adolescent development in a world undergoing rapid economic, political, cultural, and demographic change. Within this larger framework, the project will focus on at-risk adolescents. The goal is to systematically discern, for selected countries, the similarities and differences in the social causes leading to at-risk adolescent pathways (e.g. school drop-outs; youth excluded from schooling; youth in marginal employment) and to investigate their consequences for adolescent development.
