Title / Titel Electron-positron and electron-water atomic interactions
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung (a) CALCULATION OF DIFFERENTIAL CROSS-SECTIONS FOR e-H2O INELASTIC VIBRATIONAL COLLISIONS.
The calculation of differential cross-sections for e-H2O follows the theory developed by Thompson. For the calculation of the molecular orbitals, the following atomic orbitals have been taken: orbitals s, p and d for oxygen and s and p for hydrogen. The T-matrices were calculated from the K-matrices and then weighted with the eigenfunctions of the linear harmonic oscillator. The geometry used for the water molecule is 1.8 angstrom for the OH bond and 105 degrees for the bond angle. The energies of the incident electrons are: 0.35, 0.6, 0.8, 1, 2.1, 3.3, 4.2, 6 and 8 eV.

(b) CALCULATION OF ATOMIC ELASTIC SCATTERING CROSS SECTIONS OF ELECTRONS AND POSITRONS
Variationally-optimized effective atomic potential is calculated solving relativistic Dirac equations, whereas direct part of the potential is obtained in a straightforward way from the electron density. The "variational optimum" exchange potential for bound electrons is calculated using a Volterra type integral equations of the first kind. The integrated cross sections and angular distributions for electron and positron elastic scattering are calculated using partial wave analysis. Exchange potential for incident electrons and polarization potential are considered. The results are compared for a large variety of atoms for which experimental values are available.
