Completed research project

Title / Titel Particle Physics at LHC/CMS
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung We were involved since 1995 in the design and construction of the silicon pixel barrel, for which we built the mechanical structure, cooling system and service tubes. We have measured the performances of pixel prototypes on test beams at CERN, and have prepared real-time data quality monitoring programs. We have commissioned the pixel detector with cosmic rays and first collision data which started in December 2009. We have developed algorithms to efficiently tag b-hadrons. We have prepared a search for supersymmetry in channels involving only hadronic jets and a measurement of the top-antitop cross section with early data. Our current physics involvement includes a study of the decays Bs-> J/ψ φ, a study of bottom baryons such as Λb, Σb and Ξb, and bottom-antibottom production in association to a Z0-boson.
