Original title / Originaltitel Wirkungen kardiovaskulärer Risikofaktoren auf das Wachstumsverhalten menschlicher Gefässmuskelzellen
Summary / Zusammenfassung This project investigates novel factors implicated in growth of vascular smooth muscle, a critical determinant of atherosclerotic lesion progression. We have identified several new proteins that are involved in the regulation of growth modulation that are currently investigated. Moreover, research in this area investigates the interaction between factors activated as a consequence of obesity and cell proliferation, including insulin and lipid signaling as well as cell cycle regulation. A particular focus of this project is to investigate the mechanisms of "vascular insulin resistance".
