| Summary / Zusammenfassung | The omasum is one of the bovine's forestomachs and it is situated between the reticulum and the abomasum on the right side in the abdomen. There exist only a few diseases of the omasum as for example the omasal impaction. In most cases the omasum is only secondarily involved in any other diseases of the digestion tract. So far there has been no precise information about the dimension of the omasum in vivo. So it is the aim of this study to describe the omasum in ultrasonografic pictures both in healthy cows and in those which have diseases of the digestion tract. In order to achieve this the omasum of healthy cows was measured via ultrasound. Then these cows were slaughtered and each omasum was weighted, its size and volume measured. A further aim is to show via ultrasound that in cows with problems in the digestion tract the omasum can be displaced and may be bigger or smaller than normal ultrasound findings showed. |
