Title / Titel Data Collection on Adverse events of Anti-HIV Drugs (DAD)
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung Data Collection on Adverse events of Anti-HIV Drugs (DAD) is a prospective multi-cohort study for HIV-infected patients under active follow up. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the incidence of myocardial infarction among HIV/AIDS patients who are on anti-retroviral treatment. This is to investigate whether there is a correlation between development of cardio-vascular diseases and treatment with anti-retroviral drugs. An evaluation on long term side effects.

10 cohorts worldwide are participating, with a total current enrolment of over 10.000 patients. Enrolment completed year-end 2000, with over 15.000 patients. The study is projected to last for two years, providing over 30.000 person-years of data.

The data collection for DAD take place at least every 8 months. Data are computerised by each cohort and subsequently merged in a database in Copenhagen. The data collection includes information on previous diseases such as myocardial infarction, stroke and diabetes mellitus, hereditary tendency, smoking status, fat redistribution etc.

Support for the study is given by the Steering Committee for The Evaluation of Metabolic Complications of HAART, and a number of pharmaceutical companies producing anti-retroviral drugs contribute financially.

The study is supervised by a Steering Committee with representation from each cohort, EMEA and industry.
