Title / Titel Team Roles: Validation of a Self-Report Instrument
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung Working in teams has become more frequent in a variety of sectors and settings, and well-functioning teamwork has been linked to increased work satisfaction and performance. However, there is a paucity of research on the different types of (informal) roles in teams, and the composition of teams with regard to these roles. There have been previous theories and assessment instruments on team roles (e.g., Belbin, 1981) that are frequently used in practice, but they have widely been critized for neither being reliable nor valid. In 2013, the VIA institute on character suggested a new model of role behavior in teams, comprising seven such informal team roles: Idea creator, information gahterer, decision maker, implementer, influencer, energizer, and relationship manager. This research project aims at validating a self-report instrument for the assessment of these roles and aims at studying the effects of team composition on team satisfaction and performance.
