Completed research project

Title / Titel Enhancing the use of modern direct democracy tools at local level through Bulgarian-Swiss cooperation
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung The project establishes BG-Swiss partnership bringing in the Swiss-based academic and practical experience of direct democracy and other tools to bear on the BG case as it embarks on its policy goal to promote the use of instruments of direct democracy at the local level. The partnership gets together civil society actors implementing diverse activities (research, capacity building & empowerment, awareness raising, etc.) jointly targeted at an array of BG stakeholders, including local authorities/small municipalities, CSOs, academia and citizenry.

By a mix of academic/applied research and practical measures, which benefit all types of BG stakeholders, the partnership contributes to an intensive transfer of know-how and expertise in a very advanced Swiss area like direct democracy, as well as to addressing the existing gaps in BG capacities, regulatory framework and civil initiative with a focus on local level, thus helping bridge the discrepancies among different regions.
