Summary / Zusammenfassung This project looks at patterns of land usage, social organisation and ethnic identity in the Surselva region of Graubünden. It studies economic as well as demographic changes and their social impacts. A particular aspect is the role of kinship, which will be investigated in close collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle where a research group KUV (Kinship universals and variation) is instrumental in developing new methodological and theoretical approaches.
