Original title / Originaltitel Der Einfluss altersbedingter Veränderungen auf implizite und explizite Einstellungen zum Alter(n)
Summary / Zusammenfassung In later adulthood, negative age stereotypes threaten older adults' self-esteem and well-being. Importantly, age stereotypes might be represented at an implicit and explicit level. The present research project addresses the association between implicit and explicit attitudes. Specifically, we are investigating how representations about old age affect self-esteem and well-being. Moreover, we are examining social comparison orientation as a moderating factor in order to explain how older adults cope with negative age stereotypes. Four experiments will test the impact of negative age stereotypes on the relationship between implicit and explicit attitudes, on the one hand, and self and aging, on the other.
