PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung In summer 2010, Dr. Ingo Nentwig visited the Nationalities Institute of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The Institute, as well as the University’s Ethnographic Museum and the Research Center of Science&Technology and Society Development, are currently specialising in anthropology of technology with a considerable output in highly interesting scientific publications in the field.
After returning with a considerable amount of recent anthropological publications for the Cai Yuanpei Library of Chinese Anthropology at Zurich University, it was decided at the Ethnographic Museum to intensify contacts with our colleagues in Guangxi.

In Summer 2011 a group of five students left for fieldresearch to Guangxi, accompanied by Dr. Nentwig, each pursuing her or his research in cooperation with anthropology students from Guangxi Nationalities University on a topic related to one village in Guangxi. A bilingual booklet with texts written by the students, reflecting their experiences as well as the first research results, will be jointly published by Guangxi Nationalities University and the Ethnographic Museum and the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Zurich.

In August 2011, Mareile Flitsch attended "The 9th International Conference on the History of Science and Technology, and Traditional Handicrafts of Minorities in China" held in Xining, Qinghai Province, under the chairmanship of Dr. Changming Wang from Guangxi Nationalities University, to further intensify contacts and to add to her network on Chinese anthropologists of technology.

Meanwhile, a film on the students' research in Guangxi has been accomplished by lic.phil. Samuel Lengen and will be used by the teaching staff for future field research projects as an exemplary village research model.

Further initiatives for archiving research materials and publishing the research results are currently in plannung.
