Summary / Zusammenfassung The research project aims to have a fresh look at research materials on the material culture of peasants in Northeastern China collected between 1982 and 1995, to a larger part during the VW foundation funded research project "Die materielle Alltagskultur der Bauern Liaonings" (Prof. Dr. Erling von Mende und Mareile Flitsch) from 1990 to 1994. One of the particularities of these materials is that they were collected just before a major shift in rural Liaoning everyday life: The economic reforms launched by the government of the PR of China in the early 1980ies. Within the research project data will be digitalised to make it accessibel to an academic public. In cooperation with anthropologists form Liaoning province key topics of technological change in rural everyday life will be addressed in joint publications.

In 2011, Thomas Kaiser and Giancarlo Danuser finished digitizing and cataloguing the audio-visual materials of the project. In 2012 the Chinese language catalogue will be translated into German.

A cooperation program on "Ethnography of Modernising everyday life in rural Liaoning, 1980-2000" is planned with Liaonin University (Prof. Jiang Fan)
