Title / Titel Topic RefoRG Conference 2011 Zurich: THE MYTH OF THE REFORMATION, June 8-10, 2011
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung Heading for 2017 as the 500th birthday of the Reformation, the fundamental question is not whether or not Martin Luther hammered his 95 theses on that 31st of October 1517 on the door of the castle church at Wittenberg, but what is meant by the concept 'the Reformation'. Are it's meaning and influence as self-evident as is often presupposed? Was Luther the central figure? Was it an anti-catholic movement? Was it a German invention? And should not be spoken of Reformations (plural) instead of one Reformation (singular)? Some of these questions are being dealt with during the first RefoRG conference by leading scholars in the field of early modern research. Next to these plenary speakers focusing on 'The myth of the Reformation' other scholars will present short papers on a wide variety of topics.
