Title / Titel Patient Outcomes from Chiropractic Treatment for Low Back Pain in Pregnant Women.
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung Pregnant patients over the age of 18 with low back pain of any duration who have not un-dergone chiropractic or manual therapy in the prior 3 months will be recruited from multiple chiropractic practices in the region.

Clinical outcomes will be measured using the numerical rating scale (NRS) for pain intensity and the Oswestry Pain and Disability Questionnaire (OPDQ), which has been validated in German and French. These will be administered to the patient immediately prior to the first treatment by the office staff of the practice. Additional information provided by the treating chiropractor at the initial consultation will include: patient age, gestational week, number of previous pregnancies, work status, whether or not the patient smokes, duration of current complaint, number of previous LBP episodes, LBP during a previous pregnancy, category of pain (LP, PP, combination) and exercise level (regular, occasional, none).

Two weeks after the first consultation/treatment, data from the NRS, patient’s global im-pression of change (PGIC) scale, and the Oswestry questionnaire will be collected from the patient via a short telephone interview. Similarly, this same data will be collected monthly until delivery and every 3 months after delivery, up to one year post-partum via telephone interviews.
