Title / Titel	Gastrointestinal Dysfunction in Patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy;

Summary / Zusammenfassung	This study correlates gastrointestinal (GIT) transport in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) patients with symptoms, quality of life and other clinical manifestations of DMD. Detailled eating and stool habits habits and GIT symptoms will be recorded by questionnaires and diary. GIT transport will be assessed by oral administration of radiopaque markers of various shapes at predifined time intervals and subsequently observing their position within the GIT by a plain abdominal radiography. Additionally, patients will ingest non-radioactive isotope labelled test meals (13C-octanoid mareked muffins) followed by repeated sampling of exhaled breath to monitor the time of marker appearance in the exhaled air as a measure of gastic emptying. Study location is the University Hospital of Zurich. the results of this investigation may help to better understand and possibly prevent GIT disturbances in DMD.
