Title / Titel Clinical impact of minority quasispecies of drug-resistant HIV-1 on first-line treatment containing a NNRTI in treatment-naïve, chronically HIV-1 infected patients
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Summary / Zusammenfassung Recent studies have shown that the presence of minority quasispecies of drug-resistant HIV 1, not detected by resistance testing using population sequencing, before initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) can lead to virological treatment failure in treatment-naïve patients. However, this is still controversially discussed, because other studies have demonstrated that those variants have no impact on the outcome of ART. Most of those studies have included only a limited number of patients, followed-up those patients only for a short time period, or included retrospectively patients on treatment regimens, which do not reflect the current state of the art. Together, however, all studies indicate that differences in the antiretroviral regimens could cause those different observations.
