| Summary / Zusammenfassung | The objective of this thesis was to evaluate field data, obtained between 1999 and 2007 by pre-breeding examination for inherited ocular disease of retriever breeds. The data was compared with clinical data from the same time period of the ophthal- mology service of the Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Zurich. Pre-breeding examinations of 3032 retrievers were analyzed, representing the follow- ing breeds: Curly coated Retriever (n=16), Chesapeake Bay Retriever (n=38), Novia Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever (n=96), Flat coated Retriever (FCR) (n=540), Golden Retriever (GR) (n=759), and Labrador Retriever (LR) (n=1583). 15.6% of the FCR were affected by goniodysplasia. 5.7% of the GR were diagnosed with a cataract. 6.4% of the LR showed a cataract but only 0.3% of them had PRA. The efficacy of this pre-breeding examinations over time is dicussed. |
