| Summary / Zusammenfassung | Early on the economic system of work was at the center of society. Work and production also characterized the basic ideas of justice, as can be seen both from Locke's theory of property and from Marx's theory of exploitation. With the increase of capital in present Western societies the importance of labour as a materialistic basis of justice is dwindling. Nevertheless, another social basis has to be found for justice. In this project cooperation in a general sense is taken to be the only material (really social) basis for justice, and it is presupposed that justice, if it is realized, is in need of such a basis. The project therefore includes three parts: 1) the deliniation of what makes cooperation, and which motivational sources justify expectations towards the acceptance of norms of fairness within cooperation; 2) a new reading of Rawls' theory of justice, based on a naturalist concept of fair cooperation; 3) an extended diagnosis of the importance of work within a system of fair cooperation. This part will also include a critical judgement of the basic income proposal. |
