| Summary / Zusammenfassung | The project deals with the use of new communication media in companies and the impact of telecommunication on transport and environment. The focus is on applications that could substitute for a part of passengers and goods traffic and therefore help to reduce the traffic volume. One question is, wether Electronic Mail and Videoconferencing can reduce the volume of business travel. Other questions deal with the potential to reduce goods traffic volume because of traffic bundling and optimised load by means of information and communication technologies. Furthermore, the project asks for newly generated traffic due to the use of telecommunication technologies in the internal and external communication process of companies. The assessment of impacts and the given recommendations are aligned to sustainable traffic development. A mix of methods consisting of written and oral surveying, and statistical analysis is applied. Not only the status quo of using communication media in Swiss companies is evaluated, but the importance of face-to-face communication compared with telecommunication as well. The results of the project are expected to interest politicians (especially traffic and communication policy) and traffic experts. |
